Adrian Roscoe

Prof. Adrian Roscoe

Currently teaching at Sultan Qaboos University, Professor Adrian Roscoe was educated in Britain and Canada. He has previously held Chairs of English in New Zealand, South Africa, and Malawi, and a Visiting Professorship in British and African Literature at the State University of New York. With interests in British and post-colonial literature and writing across the curriculum, his recent publications include The Columbia Guide to Central African Writing Since 1940 (ed. with Anthony Chennells), The Common Touch: Popular Literature from the Elizabethans to the Restoration (ed. with Paul Scanlon), and Methodologies for Teaching Writing in EFL and ESL Contexts (ed.with Rahma Al-Mahrooqi)


Dr. Susanne Shunnaq

Susanne Shunnaq is a Vienna born English literature specialist who has recently joined the English Department at Sultan Qaboos University after a 14-year teaching, research, and administrative career in academia in the Middle East. She was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to finish her graduate studies in the USA where she received her Ph.D in Modern and Contemporary American Literature in the year 2000. Upon her graduation, she accepted a position at Yarmouk University, Jordan, where she continued her long years of dedication to the acquisition of the Arabic language and the study of Middle Eastern culture.

After her promotion to Associate Professor in 2010, she was appointed Director of the Language Center and Director of the Arabic as a Foreign Language Program at Yarmouk University. Fluent in several languages, she has been a member in the Jordanian Translators Association since its establishment in 1993. Her research interests include American and British Literature, contemporary cultural issues, cultural heritage, and contemporary Arabic society

Faryal Ahmed

Dr.Faryal Ahmed

Faryal Ahmed is currently working at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. She is teaching skill based courses at the Language Centre. Prior to this she was teaching Language and Literature to the undergraduates, graduates and post graduates at Kinnaird College, Lahore, Pakistan. She was also involved in developing courses in Applied Linguistics, Management Studies, Communication and Teacher Education. She has also taught English and Communication courses at the Academy of Civil Services in Pakistan.

She has a PHD in Management and a double Masters in Literature and Educational Management from Nottingham University, England. She is a gold medalist and a distinction holder. Other than teachingshe has served on several committees and was part of the committee that prepared the strategic plan for the Language Centre, Sultan Qaboos University, from 2004-2009.

She has developed her career in building and developing human potential where she has excelled in utilizing her core competence of problem solving, organizing and focusing on quality. She has not only been a teacher, but a counselor, a facilitator, program developer, and a coordinator hundreds of students in Oman and Pakistan.

Adil Al KhafajiDr. Adil Al Khafaji

Dr. Adil H. A. Al-Khafaji is an Associate Professor of Linguistics and Translation at the Department of English Language & Literature at Al Zahra College for Women. He has about 40 years of experience in English Language Teaching. He received his Master degree from the University of Wales, UK and PhD from Al Mustansiriyah University, Iraq.

He is a former British Council scholar and taught in Iraq, Jordan and (for the last 13 years) in Oman. Published on ELT and translation studies and is a Programme reviewer for the Omani Ministry of Higher Education.

Author of the Translanguage Hypothesis in Applied Translation Studies.

Dr. Chandrika Balasubramanian

Dr. Chandrika Balasubramanian is an Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics at the English Department of Sultan Qaboos University, where she has been working for the last two years.

Prior to coming to the Sultanate of Oman, Chandrika worked at Western Carolina University, in the USA. While she has published extensively on World English and the changing status of English as a Global Language, her current research interests focus more on issues concerned with language pedagogy.

She thoroughly enjoys working with students and enjoys the challenge of making their learning experiences more enjoyable and fruitful.
